Grado is one of
the oldest family-owned companies in the audio industry and has for
almost half a century been a leader in design engineering for the high-end
audio and recording industries. Renowned for their remarkable headphones
and phono cartridges, the company holds over 48 patents and company
founder, Joseph Grado, is credited as the inventor of the stereo moving
coil phono cartridge. All Grado phono cartridges are hand made to Grado's
full performance specifications. Acclaimed by experts as virtually the
finest pickups in the world at their price points, nothing leaves the
factory unless it sounds pure Grado. Elex Atelier is an authorized
dealer of Grado products. We list price in accordance with Grado policy. The Grado Prestige range of cartridges is split into categories: The Grado Black cartridge and Grado Green cartridge use a three piece cantilever system coupled to an elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bush. The Grado Black cartridge uses the same mechanical components as Grado Green cartridge but is manufactured to a higher engineering tolerance resulting in an finer and extended performance. The Grado Blue cartridge and Grado Red cartridge use an enhanced four piece cantilever system coupled to a specially designed elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bush. The Grado Blue cartridge uses the same mechanical components as Grado Red cartridge but is manufactured to a higher engineering tolerance resulting in a superior performance. The Grado Silver cartridge and Grado Gold cartridge use a four piece OTL cantilever system, ultra-high purity long crystal oxygen free copper wire in the coils and Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bushing. The Grado Gold cartridge is selected from the Grado Silver cartridge production run and meets higher test specifications thus resulting in superior performance. The Grado Reference Platinum cartridge and Grado Reference Sonata cartridge use a modified four piece OTL cantilever technology achieving a 10% tip mass reduction over the Prestige series and ultra-high purity long crystal oxygen free copper wire in the coils. The Grado Reference Platinum cartridge uses Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bushing. The Grado Reference Sonata cartridge uses Grado's specially designed nude elliptical diamond. The Grado Reference Master cartridge and The Reference cartridge use a modified five piece OTL cantilever technology achieving an additional 5% tip mass reduction over the Grado Reference Platinum and Grado Reference Sonata cartridges. The coils are wound with ultra-high purity long crystal oxygen free copper wire. The Grado Reference Master cartridge uses Grado's specially designed nude elliptical diamond mounted on a brass bushing. The Grado Reference cartridge uses Grado's true ellipsoid design diamond.
